December 2018

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Happy Holidays to all of you, and a very happy New Year. Here’s to wishing all music teachers a year of students practicing every day, never missing any of their lessons, and surprising us with learning more than what was requested of them. Well, okay, maybe that is something of dreams, but there’s no crime in wishing for it.

January marks the beginning of a VERY busy time for our teachers and students. We have VOCE, Inland Empire Piano Festival, Bach Festival, Steinway Competitions, Certificate of Merit, Young Pianists’ Competition, and a few other things in between. This is a time to focus on these events and do what we can to help them be a success. Please offer to help if you have students in any of these events, as it becomes a very burdensome task for the same few people to do all the work. Some of these events could become extinct if we don’t step up and do our part. Please, please consider this seriously as you prepare your students.

Now would be a good time to familiarize yourself with the https://new.mtac.org website and all the resources available to teachers for Certificate of Merit. Be sure to check your calendar and mark down dates that pertain to you and your students.

Don’t forget we have our January luncheon coming up on Monday, January 14 at 11:30 at Kaza Maza Mediterranean Restaurant in Norco (address is in your handbooks). Board members, please meet there at 11:00 for a brief meeting before the rest of the teachers arrive. To all teachers: if you are coming, please RSVP to me by Friday, January 11th via email, that way we know how many to plan for. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

May 2019 be a year to remember for all of us!

Linette Rodriguez

CERTIFICATE OF MERIT

The big deadline is upon us. Don’t forget to have EVERYTHING completed by January 15th. This means:

  • All repertoire entries must be completed
  • All Convention and Branch Honors selections must be made
  • All Panel/YAG information must be completed (Riverside teachers with panel students MUST choose Day 4 in the scheduling). This also includes the letter of intent for YAG students.
  • All scheduling requests must be requested between January 2-15. Please request AM/PM only if absolutely necessary. Do not request this for all students, or the system may not be able to honor the special requests.
  • All carpool requests must be requested between January 2-15.

This is a good time to familiarize yourself with the new.mtac.org website. Once you log in, from the home page click on “Certificate of Merit,” “Resources” and you will see a list of resources to use. Be sure to read the CM Newsletter, found at the bottom of the list under “Resources”. There is a lot of important and helpful information in these newsletters.

Because our CM evaluations are in late March, all non-exempt panel students must arrange to have their theory test taken before March 1st. Please contact Abe Fabella in order to arrange for the theory examinations.

Best of luck as you prepare for this busy time of the year!

We want to wish the following teachers a VERY happy birthday for the month of January. Enjoy your day to the fullest:
