The month of October has been a busy month for all of us. The CM enrollment process has come and gone. It is now time to remind our parents to pay online. Be sure to read the CM information provided by our CM Chair, Abe Fabella, in this newsletter.
We also had our Harvest Recital on Sunday, October 28th at 3:00 at Hole Memorial Auditorium (La Sierra University). There were 34 students participating in this event, and 7 studios represented. Congratulations to all the wonderful performers and their teachers.
This month we focus in a special way on gratefulness, giving thanks for the many blessings we have received. I want to thank all of you for the work you do with children and adults in the art of teaching music. It is a gift that lasts a lifetime, and we are all privileged to take part in the process of developing this gift. Best wishes to all of you as you continue to enrich the lives of your students.
CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
CM ENROLLMENT IS ALMOST COMPLETED: The enrollment deadline for CM was October 31st at midnight. Hopefully no one forgot to enroll their students. The next step is crucial. It is important that parents log into their Parent Portal and pay for the CM fees. The window of time in which to do this is November 1-10. CM enrollment is not completed until the fees are paid for by the parent.
REPERTOIRE ENTRIES: The process of entering repertoire for your students is ongoing until January 15th. This is also the time to choose Branch Honors and Convention.
GET TO KNOW YOUR WEBSITE: All the information needed regarding important dates and procedures are on the new.mtac.org website. The best place to explore would be under “Resources.” Teachers can also access the latest CM Newsletter with important dates from their Teacher Portal home screen. Take the time to familiarize yourself with these valuable tools.
PANEL INFORMATION: The dates set aside for Keyboard Panel this year are February 16-17 and February 23-24. The specific date for our branch is subject to final confirmation pending enrollment numbers. Panel teachers will be notified directly by the Panel chairperson. And please remember that the theory test for Panel students that are not exempt must be completed before March 1st, so arrangements need to be made with Abe Fabella before that date. This date has been moved up from March 10th, so please make a note of it. The date for Voice Regional Panel students is February 24.
OTHER IMPORTANT DATES:
November 13 – Postmark deadline to send your Teacher Work Agreement (Student List is unnecessary) to Abraham Fabella, 26337 Bay Avenue, Moreno Valley 92555. Or you can email directly to ABEFABE@GMAIL.COM
January 2-15 – This is the only time that scheduling requests can be made (AM or PM times for CM). Please do not request scheduling unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
January 15 – Universal deadline for repertoire entries, both regular CM students and Panel students.

INLAND EMPIRE PIANO FESTIVAL
The deadline for the Inland Empire Piano Festival application is December 10. The competition will take place on February 10, 2019 at California Baptist University and will feature the Romantic and Impressionist Periods. Brochures were emailed to our Branch members in September. We all have had those lessons where the parent sent the student in even though they were sick. A few years ago, one of my students came in for his lesson like normal. About 15 minutes into his lesson, I noticed that he was rubbing his eyes, so I asked him, “Do you have something in your eye?” He responded, “No, I didn’t go to school today because I had pinkeye.” Needless to say, I cloroxed the entire studio after he left.
Then there was the student who wanted to learn how to play the theme from Jurassic Park. I pulled out the sheet music and played it for him, and he said, “That sounds just like the movie! You watch it and hear the music and think, ‘Oh how nice,’ then BAM!!!! The T-Rex eats someone!”
