BACH FESTIVAL UPDATE
The deadline to enter students in the Bach Festival is February 1. The website is now up and running. It had been delayed because teachers in charge of it have been impacted by the wildfires in LA. We hope many of you enroll at least one student this year. The branch Bach Festival has been in decline for some time now. This year, we are committing to making it a live event, regardless of the registration numbers. Please help our branch reach at least 20 students this year, or more if possible (last year we had 13). The branch Bach Festival event is scheduled on Sunday, February 23 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. It will be in the afternoon, starting at 1:30 and, depending on the registration numbers, will be one or two recitals. Also, please keep our fellow MTAC teachers in Southern California in your thoughts and prayers.
The 2024-2025 Southern California Junior Bach Festival will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The location will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. Each year, we have seen fewer students participate in the festival. In order for the branch festival to continue, the registration numbers need to increase. Our goal this year is to have 30 registered students. This would be enough to secure a venue, creating a great opportunity for the students to perform for the judges and fellow pianists. Please encourage your students to participate.
Registration closes on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Additional instructions will be in future branch newsletters and online at scjbf.org.
Repertoire: For the branch festival, only music by J.S. Bach is to be performed. Excluded from the Regional Festival is music from AMB Notebook 113-132, transcriptions other than those made by J.S. Bach himself from his own works and works from other Baroque composers.
Music: Students are to bring their music to their recital. Please make sure the student’s name is on the music. The music will be collected before each recital for the judges. Remind students to pick up their music at the Judges’ table on their way out.

New Teachers: Registration for new teachers will open on December 15th. There will be a “New Teacher” button where you can create an account.

Regional Festival: Please impress upon your students the fact that only 50% of those entered will be chosen to go on to the Regional Festival. The Regional Festival will be held on Saturday May 3, 2025 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 23101 La Palma Ave, Yorba Linda, 92887.
